  1. Hello, we do, in fact, take donations for the Tanks for Teachers program which is specifically set up to set up systems in local interested schools. We just recently set one up in a school in hood river. Our TFT coordinator @Flashy Fins May know if there is a host location on deck that would be interested in having an already running system.
  2. Hey Cody - are you going to make it tomorrow? Would be cool to see some of your zoas.
  3. This should be a lot of fun. Brian’s put a lot of work into his systems and it definitely shows. Will be exciting to see what people come up with for the frag swap/sale. Hope to see a lot of you there.
  4. Congrats on getting that stand completed. Hopefully that means you finally got an undamaged panel! What a hassle.
  5. Looks like I need to check the bylaws again. We have a section titled “Things PDXMonkeyboy may try to do”. Guess it needs updating
  6. That was one of the ideas discussed - definitely worthwhile.
  7. Good news! Sorry about the false start there folks...
  8. Hey @NateDawg @Derbird @SuncrestReef if you do have a chance to test this again for us that would be great. Sorry for the inconvenience!
  9. Thanks for the heads up. I perhaps @TheClark can take a look at this.
  10. Hello fellow PNWMAS members, Just a quick note to introduce a new feature on the site - the Member Map - which shows up as a tab in the main navigation. Many of you have expressed an interest in knowing where your fellow reefing aficionados were located in the great Pacific NorthWest and this plugin will allow us to begin to do that. The map is "opt in" so will only show location information for those that decide to enter their data (it does not pull from member profiles). It is also designed to be as specific (or non-specific) as you want so you can enter your information by actual address, zip code only, etc., depending on your comfort level with sharing. There will only be a few member locations visible to start (basically the officers, BOD and admins who tested it out) but as more people opt in we hope this will become a useful tool for the community. When you have a moment we encourage you to check it out and see what you think. Note that as of 2/22/19 this is only visible to members. Enjoy! Addendum: We have added an LFS group to the map and you can choose to look at them separately from the members if you want to see where the nearest store might be. Hope it's useful.
  11. Welcome! Sounds like you have been at this for a while now - congrats on keeping the tank up for 8 years... seems like most of us have had to start over at least once in that time frame! Glad you found and and hope you are able to find some good tips, advice and inspiration. Good luck with your zoa project.
  12. Looks like quite the operation! Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing the new setup when you get it up and running.
  13. I've found you can never go wrong following monkeyboy's advice... oh, wait. 😄
  14. Yeah, I think this is kind of the most critical issue as any of the salts mentioned would probably work fine but it depends on what you are trying to accomplish with your water changes. If you are counting on the water change to "rebalance" your alk/ca, then you may opt for one of the varieties that mixes up to higher levels than your tank set point (e.g. water change mix Alk at 11, tank target 8 or9) but, as monkeyboy suggests, you want to be careful of creating significant swings - which will depend on how much water you are changing out, how frequently, and consumption rate. Alternatively, if you plan to manage your alk/ca levels through some other mechanism (e.g. dosing, reactor) or you have really low consumption (all softies) you would probably pick a salt mix that more closely matches your tank setpoint. Regardless, because of the potential to create swings through water changes in a smaller tank and potential uncertainty around consumption rates in a new system I would recommend actually testing the Alk fairly regularly until you have your process dialed, whatever salt you choose. Good luck!
  15. Cool but these things look less like "mushrooms" all the time 😀
  16. Well the old one is a complete hand held setup which shows the readings on it's own display - sort of similar to a multimeter. The USB one requires downloading a small bit of driver/interface software on a laptop - it is basically the sensor attached to a wand with the USB cable. I think the necessary links are at the start of this thread if you want to check that out. There are both Windows and Mac OS versions of the downloadable software available but there are some compatibility limitations.
  17. Welcome Zach! Sounds like you might have your hands full with that collection of tanks and furry pets. Looking forward to seeing some pics of your setups if/when you get s chance. Maybe you will have a chance to make a meeting one of these days - we do have the occasional one up in Kelso.
  18. On the list. Put you down for "either" but let us know if you really need a particular one.
  19. A blast as always. Great to see so many familiar faces, and some new ones as well. Hope everyone scored some nice pieces - certainly seemed like quite a few went out the door.
  20. Well - you didn’t show today so I guess those beers I tossed on the floor went to waste after all. Sorry about that Holly.
