siskiou
I'm back from Germany, and of course something had to break while I was gone! Thanks for helping out, Miles! I'm in the market for an affordable recirc skimmer. Since my current skimmer was always a little too tall and cumbersome to maintain in my cramped sump, I'm looking to replace it with something easier to handle. Shouldn't be taller than 23-24". Anything out there that doesn't break the bank?
COReefer
I do like the octopus recirc skimmers
lancecobb1
I have an octopus RPS 2000 on my 120 and it seems to do a good job! I cant complain one bit about it!
siskiou
Sounds good! I wish there was a used one available!

mltnguyen
Good day. I don't know how you feel about DIYers but I found this yesterday while poking around on RC. It seems like it would be worth checking out. http://www.i-techskimmers.com/forums/index.php Good luck Mike
siskiou
Thanks, Mike! I'm interested, but can't find anything about prices. Are these cone skimmers recircs, or is this something the design doesn't need?
wobble
You should be able to pick up a used ASM G-2 or Octopus NW200 for that price. Give or take a little.
siskiou
Yeah, I'm keeping my eye out. I have an ASM mini on my 60G, and it's doing a great job for being really a very simple skimmer. No recirc or anything. Am also interested in doable DIY designs.
mltnguyen
so i looked into this some more and this is what i found from the builder. 100 model $300 not counting the pump 200 model $400 not counting the pumps. All pumps that seem to work are around $80 to $160 depending on what you get. now if you buy used you might be able to find evan a sweeter deal on the pump reducing the price even more. It looks like this guy has done some mods to the pumps and has several pumps that are compatible with his skimmers. If you need more info PM me and I will send you all that I have found. thanks Mike
siskiou
Thanks for the research! I guess this is way beyond my budget at this point! :( I'm hoping someone will sell a used ASM or Octopus, or something else affordable in the near future. mltnguyen
When do you need this skimmer? I might pick one of these up. If i do i will have a ASM G1 w/ Mesh mod and Sedra 3500.
siskiou
I don't want to wait too long, but the G1 would be nice! Please pm me with possible pricing!
Ryan
If you can afford $50 more, the Vertex IN-100 would be a GREAT choice. If I wasn't planing on building my own skimmer, I would probably buy one. http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=VX-IN100&Category_Code=Vertex
siskiou
I've never heard of these! Are they a relatively new brand?
Lowman
Get a hold of wannareef on here, he is a great acrylic guy and may be able to make you something in your price range.
Ryan
I've never heard of these! Are they a relatively new brand? I started noticing them about 6 months ago...The reviews I have read on them are great. They are also built very well, with 1/4" thick cell cast acrylic which is normally only found on much more expensive skimmers. here is the Vertex Skimmer Club thread on RC: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1588962

It sounds like I would need the IN-180, and that's up at almost $300.
