pdxmonkeyboy
So as you may or may not know, using vinegar to clean your plastic parts can leach through the plastic and eventually make your magnetic swell. Also, vinegar smells like vinegar. Saw a post about using citric acid and gave it a try.. works great and no smell!! A 5lb bag of pure food grade citric acid is about $10 on amazon. Mix 3/4 cup in a gallon of water... now you have a gallon of vinegar equivalent. So $10 will make about 8-10 gallons of solution. Pretty slick.. and you can also make our own bath bombs, sour patch kids, and descale your coffee maker. Manny Tavan
I just switched to citric acid also. It was on sale at brs during Black Friday. Works great

Interesting about the differential sensitivity to acetic vs citric acid.

When I search on Amazon the best I can find is about $15 for 10lbs.

xxkenny90xx
I haven't clicked the link but I have heard this before about mp40 pumps and vinegar. From what I remember other brands were fine being cleaned with vinegar (correct me if I'm wrong). That being said if the acid is cheaper I'm in!
Gumby
Thank you for post. I just started the switch a month ago. Does a great job!

Jeremevans
I just heard about this so It's interesting timing to see it here too. I think word is getting around. Sounds like there are some sad people who damaged their Vortech MPs.

Bicyclebill
I just switched too! That might explain all those swollen magnets back in the day from some of my return pumps. I bought the brs stuff, so good to hear it’s all pretty much the same Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

SuncrestReef
I finally picked up a 10lb bag of citric acid, but there are no directions on the bag. @pdxmonkeyboy what ratio of citric acid to water do you use to mix it?

Gil&Fin
I use citric acid to clean my testing vials. You know how after a while they get that cloudy white residue that won't come off? It used to drive me crazy. I tried citric acid a couple of years ago and voila! Sent from my SM-G928P using Tapatalk
