youcallmenny
I came home to one of my doors hanging slack and no amount of fiddling seems to be lining this door back up. I'm not sure that it should be doing this. Any tips? 20190621_080217.mp4
SuncrestReef
Can you post a photo or video of the hinge with the door open? I’m curious to see if it’s pulling away from the door or cabinet wall, or if the hinge itself is pulling apart.
youcallmenny
It's the hinge itself. It's the piece that bridges the door mount and the stand mount. The little 1" piece. It seems like the part that rotates closer to the stand mount has lost tension when I compare it's function to the other hinges. There seems to be extra slack in this hinge. I guess that settles that. I wonder how that managed to happen while we were gone. 😩
SuncrestReef
You should probably contact Red Sea support to see if they can send a replacement hinge. There are a few online stores that sell replacement parts, but it seems they only sell a complete kit of cabinet hardware, not the individual parts: https://www.aquariumpart.com/Red_Sea_Reefer_Max_Cabinet_Hardware_Kit_42179_p/rrs42179.htm You can probably find a hinge at local hardware stores, but not sure if the holes would line up.

That is always my first guess when mysterious things happen while I'm gone.
IntoTheMystic
There are usually a coupla adjustment screws on hinges like that and in my experience, they always lose the snug over time. Grab a Philips, find the sweet spot on the close and adjust accordingly. I sincerely hope this fix is that easy.

This appears to be a failure of one of the pivotpoints on the hinge. Not looking good honestly.
SuncrestReef
@youcallmenny Did you ever manage to repair or replace the hinge?
youcallmenny
Yep! It was $21 + $8 shipping. It's in the mail and I'm fairly confident that it'll be fine. On a completely separate note, ANOTHER one of my Hydra 26's died on Monday. They're shipping a new one but this is 2 out of 4 completely dead within the ~3 months I've had them. Sorry, just had to gripe about that one a little. 😂

youcallmenny
At least this time it's the one on the end and it isn't impacting quite as much of the tank. Still, makes the whole thing look pretty bad for the week and a half it's going to take them to ship it to me.

That is a pretty bad failure rate - you would have hoped they would at least offer rush shipping after going through it twice already.
