pdxmonkeyboy
Greetings fellow reef geeks. So I just got my super duper fancy TV and I have to say... It is pretty #$*%# amazing looking. I have "chasing corals" in 4k but haven't watched it yet. Would anyone be interested in coming over, drinking some beer, talking reef and watching some coral and ocean focused TV? Maybe bring a frag of something and leave with something else? Thinking of friday as it has been a hell of a week so far and it isn't even half over. Thoughts? (other than... gee, doesn't this guy have friends?) 2
albertareef
Cool idea! I would normally be up for this but I think we have plans to stop by our college reunion event that night.

SuncrestReef
If this was last week I would have attended while my wife was in Europe on a business trip. But she just got back and probably expects a nice dinner on Friday before her next trip on Tuesday. 🤷♂️
Bicyclebill
Can I bring “The Big Lebowski” for after, and call booty back on a couch for the night?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
pdxmonkeyboy
I downloaded Rambo in 4k as well. Dknt know why I like that movie so much. Lol.Well, I started watching chasing corals last night... I got so angry and sad I couldn't finish it. We have ALL this evidence that dictates we are seriously screwing up the climate and there are soo many people that just say "it's all a left wing hoax" Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

I’ve watched Rambo a couple times in the past few months. I didn’t even know it was available in 4K! That and Die Hard, Predator, and Tremors are movies I can watch over and over. That does suck about the climate and corals though. Edited June 6, 2019 by SuncrestReef

I'm honestly not sure I would be able to take it either - kind of overwhelmed with sad information re climate, species extinction rates, deforestation, etc. etc.
pdxmonkeyboy
It was SERIOUSLY depressing. The amount of loss, its staggering. I remember being haunted by seeing reefs that were poisoned by the commercial aquarium fish divers in the philippines when I was there but man, this was just on another level. The before and after pictures... paradise to rubble. it was really really bad. 1
SuncrestReef
I remember my first time ever scuba diving in 2012. We spent 3 days on a boat at the Great Barrier Reef. I was so excited to see everything based on photos and videos I had seen, but when I saw it in person I couldn't believe how bleached much of it looked. I was really disappointed because I thought it would be better in person than the videos I saw, but it wasn't close. Very sad.

Wouldn’t having clean air be worth it? It’s not going to hurt us to have breathable air and to not have trash polluting all the water and land. If there is ANY justice in the world (there is a little), then all the people that voted for trump will die of various types of lymphomas caused by mercury and other particulates from coal fired power plants. You really have to step back and wonder, when the state of Washington has to sue the EPA to prevent then from LOWERING washinton state's water quality standards... just [language filter] is going on. Higher Thinking
I'll be honest, this is one of the few places to exchange thoughts and ideas that don't have to be swamped in politics. Sure would be nice to keep it that way. Particularly because not everyone shares your opinions. I think we can all agree it's nice to have a politics free place to hang and chat. At least I think that's the case anyway. Reef on!Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
pdxmonkeyboy
And here I thought reef keepers would value clean water. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk 1
CrabbyCrabs
Pdxmonkey just look at what your fabulous state of Washington is trying to build up by the Idaho border that is nothing but toxic waste... It's a smelter for building your so called clean energy solar panels but it will destroy the ground water and air. Look up the Newport smelter and then get back to us about Washington giving a rip about the environment. As long as it's not near Olympia they don't care.
youcallmenny
Compared to what? The mining and storage also involved in nuclear? The wastewater from fracking? Coal?
CrabbyCrabs
How about the mining, processing, and recycling of the materials for solar panels and batteries for electric cars. Wonder why all that is done in foreign countries with near zero pollution controls. Solar panels are highly toxic to manufacture and recycle, same with all forms of batteries. That's why it's all done in countries like china who don't care about the environment, they just dump it in their rivers or bury it. How much of the the great barrier reef bleaching is due directly from us diving amongst it? How about cruise ships and tour boats that dump their sewage/garbage overboard? They are real close to china/India compared to us who just dump toxic waste into their water. If you want real change, go after the countries with big pollution! Hint, it's not the U.S. and selling carbon credits won't do anything except make everyone pay more for everything.
