SuncrestReef
I have noticed two of these little corals on rocks at opposite ends of my tank. They don't look like any of the corals I actually placed in my tank, and I started with dry rock, so I have no idea where they came from. Is it common for a coral to be a hitchhiker? Each is about 1/4" diameter. Â Any idea what they are? Â Here are some detailed macro photos: Edited May 17, 2019 by SuncrestReef
CrabbyCrabs
That is cool. Not sure what it is. Some type of scan?

Sometimes it is difficult to Id from a small frag but possibly Galaxea coral ?🤔

youcallmenny
I agree it looks like a galaxea but my first thought was maybe pocillopora. I've seen them spread in that manner. Do you have a green one?

Ah Ha!  I used to have a pocillopora but it died a couple months ago.  During that time it did seem to have some polyp bailout taking place, so perhaps that's how these two showed up on other rocks?
youcallmenny
I had a pink colony spawn 10-15 little tiny colonies just like that. It was definitely a head-scratcher until they got a little bigger and it became obvious.

SuncrestReef
I just went back through old photos and found one of the pocillopora I had.  Side by side it looks like a match to me:  Edited May 17, 2019 by SuncrestReef

SuncrestReef
Update: I have now discovered 7 of these pocilloporas around my tank, including two on the back wall. Â These things are survivors!
Rp.McMurphy
Timely post. I just found 3 of these a couple days ago and pulled them out just in case. Found one I missed though so I'll let this one go and see what happens.  Photo isn't up to my standards but you get the picture....
