Paratore
Dang - has it seriously been a year and a half since that build started? Ugh... where did the time go!I think so, filled it with water last February I think! Sent while trying to get my next coral fix.....
Manny Tavan
Marco cement hasn’t arrived so I continued with quickrete cement to finish the base. I epoxied frag disks to the bottom edges that will make contact with the glass. Will apply cement around the disk to hide them since i will have a bare bottom system
albertareef
Looking good! The frag disk feet are a nice addition.
pdxmonkeyboy
I like those feet as well. Pretty slick arch and all that as well, as long as it doesn't go in the smack dab center of the tank it should look really nice!!
SuncrestReef
Will you be moving the whole structure into the tank as a single piece, or did you build it as modules that come apart? Looks like it would take several people to carefully lift the whole thing into your tank.
Manny Tavan
It’s pretty light. It’s just the base right now. Will be placing all the branches once i get my 1/2” ceramic rods and new cement. It will be just one piece that weighs about 50-60 lbs. that’s why i wanted the feet to have a wider contact patch Edited November 8, 2018 by Manny Tavan
Manny Tavan
I ended up using both epoxy (for the critical joints) and cement (to reinforce it) and so far it is holding. The base using rocks is completed. Now I need to add the branches

Does the hydraulic cement or marco cement work on wet live rock?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It might take longer to cure though.Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

CrabbyCrabs
Drill into the rock pieces and insert stainless pins then use 2 part epoxy, not putty, to glue them?
Manny Tavan
i have 1/4" acrylic rods and 1/2" acrylic rods I am going to try next. This rock is kinda hard to drill into because it tends to break a lot
CrabbyCrabs
Use a masonry bit not a regular drill bit. But don't use the hammer mode on the drill
Manny Tavan
Yes i have masonry drill bits. This liferock is weird though. Inside the rocks are pockets of loose aragonite sands. Once you get into it there is no structure holding it in place. Manny Tavan
Here is the back up plan. Two structures instead of one. The belize branches were a lot easier to work with once I broke them in pieces lol Edited November 17, 2018 by Manny Tavan
CrabbyCrabs
Yeah, life rock is man made somehow. It's brittle and breaks weird. Reminds me of sandstone.
Manny Tavan
I think I might be done. Still lots of left over rocks but I need to remind myself that less is more
