itskris
Debating on upgrading my drilled biocube 29 to a red sea reefer 170. Not much of an upgrade size wise... But it will be much quieter and it fits my space. My question is... Once set up... Do I need to wait to transfer all my live stock? Or can I just transfer water and rocks and call it good... I'll be buying new sand. I have several thousand dollars in high end corals I don't want to loose... That's my biggest concern.
reefnjunkie
Won't be an issue at all Put everything into a holding tub, save all the water, try to keep the live rock wet and move the old tank and place the new one. I'd use new live sand as to dry sand to help avoid a mini cycle. Place all the rock, then sand, add water and corals and things will be fine. Nice upgrade! Jorge
I agree with Brad. I would still be a little worried with the sediment the new sand is going to produce. Definitely let your livestock sit in a tub overnight til it clears up. Should clear up within 24 hours.
WingRider62
If all you are looking for a quieter system, I have a 4 month old biocube for sale, the only thing you hear is the fan. We just combined our 2 cubes into one 75 gallon. Asking $250, comes with skimmer, heater, and upgraded LEDs.
