Smann
We have a generator with a transfer panel on our house for a power outage, only used it once or twice in 10 years.
Higher Thinking
What would u guys have to save your tank during a power outage or earth quake? Just loose everything? Well an earthquake that cracks the tank would be unavoidable. Luckily we don't get that kind of action around here. For power outages, the two biggest concerns would be flow and temperature. For flow, there are battery backups that people use to keep their pumps running. Like Smann mentioned, people can also use generators. A generator would let you use a heater as well. Depending on how big your tank is, you can wrap blankets around it to maintain the temperature better. I don't know if I've actually seen someone try it (I imagine tons of people have), but you could put some of those little hand warmers inside a Ziploc bag and toss them in your tank. Of course you would cover your tank if you have a cover laying around. I'm sure there are many more ideas out there, but that's just a few. jawfish
I wrap my tank in blankets/sleeping bags, battery backups for pumps, and I keep a 1,000 watt inverter to run the heaters from my car battery if desperate (I've never had to use it).
icepikbiker
I use a power inverter from my car also, I have a power strip dedicated to just my return pump, skimmer and heater. Haven't had to use it with the new (higher power) skimmer but it worked last time I needed it.

Mandinga
Lay naked in the tank...if your tank is big enough. If you have a nano....just dangle your HAND in the tank. Edited January 12, 2015 by Mandinga
JManrow
I have a 2000W power inverter that I need to hook up. It was from my Dodge Ram Conversion Van... just need to install it in my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee whenever I can get some help with that.
