rworegon
Last night I got the second hole drilled in the back of my 30 cube. Now I need to design a sump. I will go with a 4" filter sock, a skimmer, a return section, and try to build in some kind of ATO reservoir. I would like some recommendations for a skimmer, needs to have a fairly small footprint, not break the bank, be quiet, and reliable. Currently I have a reefstar skimmer that I got with the tank but its rated at something like 200 gal and has a rather large footprint. What are some of the better skimmers out there that would handle a rather heavily fed 30 gal? Livestock will include euphelia, zoa's, gobies, blennies, maybe acans. Thanks for looking. pledosophy
If your just going LPS then you could get away with something very small, or older. Even a remora pro would work pretty good on that. Only pump is a MJ1200 so dead silent. It can go in or out of the sump, most people hang them on the side, so you'd still have plenty of room for other stuff. Jack-the-reefer
I love the sca301 I have on the 40b. It's small, inexpensive, and does a great job.
Bicyclebill
I've got a Hydor Slim Skim Nano that is quiet, does a marginal job, and could be yours for $25!

icepikbiker
What size footprint are you looking at, I have a Boyu DG-2516 http://www.allpondsolutions.co.uk/hang-on-protein-skimmer-dg2516.html, it's a HOB skimmer that I have sitting in my sump. Works really good I've just been wanting to upgrade to a bigger skimmer, I'm upgrading my tank from a 72 bow to a 120 plus my 55 sump, and with how much I feed it would max out the Boyu. Would you be interested in trading?

JManrow
I have been looking into Tunze skimmers for my own tank. Tunze has been around many years and stands by it's work. Replacement parts are available when needed. Tunze Comline 9001 might be best suited for your tank, also there are larger models available. http://www.tunze.com/149.html?&L=1&C..._tunzeprod_pi1[predid]=-infoxunter028 http://www.tunze.com/fileadmin/gebra...x9001.8888.pdf The model 9001 is rated for tanks up to 37 gallons, and the 9004 up to 60 gallons. I talked to Marine Depot and was told it will work in a sump with an ATO. There is a video on the page for the 9004. http://www.marinedepot.com/Tunze_Com...ISVSHT-vi.html A heavily fed tank may require this model. Are those meant to be inside the aquarium? It is intriguing to say the least. I'm trying to figure out how they might work in a sump. I'm trying to figure out how they might work in a sump. I saw one being used in a refugium. I suppose as long as the water were the proper depth(9.4 to 11.4 inches), it would not be a problem.
