Lowman
My wife got me hooked on motorcycles and I am buying one this January. I have looked at several, and I wish I could justify the money for a Harley, but GOD, they are expensive!! So My choices are narrowed down to the new Honda Shadow Phantom 750, Suzuki Intruder 800, Yamaha Vstar 650, and the Kawasaki Boulevard 1400. So the question is, which one would you experienced guys get?
R-3
My Dad has a Honda Bob and loves it. He rarely rides it and always starts right up and is ready to go!
Lowman
I bought a starter bike a couple months ago. 450 Honda Nighthawk. It will go to the wife when I buy the new bike. It is a great bike. I am leaning toward the Shadow, but Roger thinks I should get the V Star
reef165
My dad had a V star for a couple years and loved it, the only reason he got rid of it was because mom gave him the go ahead on a Harley. I got to ride it a couple times and I liked it but I dont get on motercycles much so I dont have much to compare it to.
jgf86123
I can attest to the VStars being nice bikes, I just prefer American bikes, aka Harleys, nothing beats one, I can promise you that.
Lowman
I would love to get a Harley, but can't justify it.
jgf86123
Yeah, that's the big problem with Harleys, they're expensive as hell, only reason I have experience with one is my dad an 2 uncles each had Harley's, friggin awesome bikes. NoobtoSalt
If you want to ride a v star let me know. I'm still selling mine. Great bikes just don't have the time
Rick
Are you buying new or used? If used then January should be a good time to buy a Harley. (If I'm going to run the risk of hitting another deer I'm going to do it with class)
grassi
I owned an Harley and some japanese bikes, a Yamaha Virago 535 and an Honda Shadow 600. I drove some other bikes, friends bikes. I remember both the intruder 1400 and 800 being great bikes. All of them will drive better and be more reliable than Harleys. But I would buy an harley again. There are also Moto Guzzi that are good "old style" bikes. Or you could also consider Triumphs
Lowman
I am thinking used, but I may talk the wife into spending a few more bucks and buy new. I LOVE Moto Guzzi bikes. And Triumphs, but I really want the cruiser style
Saltfinsax
I think the triumphs still hold a good resell value too. but I have been out of bikes for a wile now.

Ocean In a Box
I have had all brands and the one thing I would strongly advise over all for guys our size, dont by anything less than a 1000. Go for the bike you wont regret down the road regardless of brand.
newfisher
There's nothing better then riding in the rain' date=' get hit, sick and die! Motorcycle in Oregon HMMMM?[/quote'] I put 15,000 miles on my HARLEY a year and have had more friends wreck their cars than friends wreck their bikes. It comes down to making the right decisions and being aware of your surroundings. I would ride every day in Alaska if I lived there!!! That's a nice thought randy.but.....do the research Bob on a sportster ( I'm a big guy and no way would iever be comfortable on a sportster ) and a new sportster is only 9k. Look for an older wide glide or softail for the same money. Or, spend a few grand more and grab a road king or ultra classic. If you were in the 13 range look at 2001 (twin cam motor) and newer touring bikes ie roadglide roadking ultra etc. You will never own another bike again.
