stylaster
So i picked up a diopter kit and used the +4 and the +10 lens. Not bad semi macro shots for under 30.00 Any tips to maybe get in even closer would be great. Someday ill have the money saved up for a macro lens. The pics are taken with a Canon Rebel XS with 55mm lens

stylaster
i did notice there are a couple things i got to figure out. 1) I can't use the tripod, i have to be atleast 5" or closer to focus on the subject. So i took them by hand 2) Will have to play shooting in RAW format to use post processing to fix some of the over exposure 3) I want to get a pic so close a single monti polyp fills the screen Any suggestions for a lens that will do that? I know my diopters wont go that close!
Algae
I would tell you secrets for that Red Planet. Heck, I'd tell ya stories that would make a grown man cry for that coral! Nice pics! Basically: Clean glass, turn off all pumps, throw as much light at it as possible, get as close as pratical.

Algae
A moderate telephoto, a tripod, remote control and your diopters.
grassi
+1 for remote or time delay. You can use a.... I guess is called monopod? Or just tilt the tripod and use some sort of plastic tube between the tank and the camera's body to hold it in place. With the rebel you can use the free software available on the Canon website and the usb cable to see the pic after a second on your screen. Make it easier to get the perfect shot. I have a 60 ultrasonic macro and I'm happy with it. For bigger ratio without buying an expensive lens you can always make the pic bigger, crop and use genuine fractals to de-pixelate. Nate213
Here are some other good links for DIY macro lenses. Some are pretty crude, but take nice shots. Also you can buy couplers to mount 2 lenses together to create a super macro. http://stephenelliot.com/2007/05/15/reverse-lens-macro-photography-tutorial/ http://www.diyphotography.net/diy_reverse_macro_ring http://jyoseph.com/diy-macro-lens-reverse-mount-extension-tube/
