vanz
A 5 inch RBTA can fit through a 1/4" slot on an overflow box and clog the u-tube. (flame)

vanz
I was extremely lucky in this case as I caught it soon after it happened...probably a min or less. I went upstairs or a bit and heard a waterfall sound coming from downstairs...I rushed down like a bat out of hell and turned off everything. It was like a zero edge tank. In that time, I had a full 5g ATO dumped half its contents inside the tank which meant that much water went on to the wood floors. BTAs are evil! They walk over and kill everything, gets sucked in the powerhead, and can even jack up your overflow. But they are soo cool:D
newfisher
Its always stories like this that pop up AFTER I add the dang thing to my tank!
andy
To be fair, the problem really isn't the BTA.. it's the single point of failure overflow. A snail, a wad of algae, a particularly unlucky power failure, etc. all could have caused the same problem.
fishmanmike01
Funny I should read this today. My at least 8" rbta squeezed about a third of itsielf through my over flow just a day ago. It did not clog anything but I pretty shure the buggers a gonner. it's still not looking too hot.
