fishmanmike01
This stuff has really taken a good foot hold in my tank and I cant seem to get rid of it. Does anybody know what it is or how to eliminate it? Here are some pics of it.
impur
I've had that on a few frag plugs its bad stuff. I pulled it off with tweezers everytime it was long enough. It would smother the frag. I'll try to get you the name or hopefully someone will chime in that knows
nwcoralfarm
Looks like some type of Halimeda, but by the fact that there are just way too many to know and that I am no botanist, my guess is probably wrong, ha ha.
barrierreefcf
It looks like Dictyota spp. or Y-Branch Algae. Its a pain! Rabbit Fish seem to like it though.
RoseCityAquarium
+1 on Dictyota. I always laugh when I hear the name of that algae.
fishmanmike01
That does look like it. Thanks. Now how do i get rid of it ????
stylaster
my rabbit fish eats just pretty much all algae except some turf that's been in the tank for over 3 years. Small patch never seems to grow, which is good.... Now wait ill go look in the tank and it will be a big ol ball of turf algae hehe
Saltfinsax
Sounds like its time to get a new fish. I had a big problem with wafer algae and finally found that a Naso Tang ate it. He isn't the prettiest fish out there but he was eying the stuff from the bag when I put him in there. That is all he seems to want to eat and couldn't swim well for a couple weeks he was so fat, so he's got a home with me now as I have rock to look at again. barrierreefcf
Yep, Rabbits and Naso Tangs usually eat it.
fishmanmike01
Does any species of rabbit eat it? Will a fox face work? My tank is only a 70 gal, I think a naso would be a little big.
