mytshall
Whats the longest fish and a tank can be left with out feeding. I just ordered a reefkeeper to monitor the tank but i'm heading out of town for about 5 days and didn't know if that is too long to go without feeding. Thanks
Randy-S
When I leave for a week I use my ehem fish feeder it drops some sprilina flake in twice a day. 39.99 at your lfs I also bought a 1.99 floating feeder ring this attaches to glass of my tank and keeps the flake trapped in one spot until it sinks or the fish gets it. If not it would all just go over my overflows.
Randy-S
to answer your question they "should" survive for a week I just know I would not want to go that long with out beer er I mean food ya food.
MarkBirkett
vacation Hope you have a water topper to cover evaporation, so your salt levels don't get too high.
snowpunk
I only feed every three days right now. I did go a week for a long time. as long as they are fat and happy before you leave you should be fine...
vanz
What fish do you have? That will determine if you can or can't. But for only 5 days, I'm sure they should be okay. I've left my tank for 2 weeks before without feeding. There were only a couple of clowns and a blenny though.
vanz
BTW I just ordered an auto fish feeder in preparation for my 2 week long vacation in a few months. I got it from super-feeder.com.
tigerv503
I would recommend buying an auto-feeder unit! Better safe then sorry.
pledosophy
BTW I just ordered an auto fish feeder in preparation for my 2 week long vacation in a few months. I got it from super-feeder.com. If you need someone to look in on your tank, I'm right down the road. Maybe we could trade, I'm leaving for a week coming up too. CA2OR
I know of a business in So Cal that closed it's doors for almost a month, when we went in to clean it out everything was still alive. He had a pretty good size top of system and crazy sponge grew during that time....then again, some people leave them for a week and everything dies....kinda like luck of the draw. reef165
I left mine for two weeks and everything was fine. You should over feed like a week or two before ya go so they are good and fat! I usualy feed once a day but I feed morning and night. When I got home everything was fine. I did have a ato that I was using of 10 gallons and knew it wasnt going to be enouph so I hooked it up to my RO/DI at the time and SOOOOOOOO nice!! Rick
Like Brandon I only feed about once every 3 days and all of the fish still seem healthy. For a week or less the only thing I would do is put an ATO on to keep the water from getting too low. If I fed daily though I don't think I would go that long. Jay
I used to go 4 days all the time when I lived in Moses Lake and came to Vancouver to visit family all the time. Jay
Ryan
I use a Current USA auto feeder. It works great. I left my tank for a full 2 weeks last summer during my vacation, and it worked great. My tank is fully automated though (dosing pumps, Aquacontroller, ATO, chiller, etc...), so that helped a lot.
Danik
I would be afraid to skip even one day(scary). but that just me. I have a neighbor that come twice a day to feed the fish when i travel, lucky me.
mytshall
Out of town Thanks for the input. What type of auto top off are people using. I had originally planned to install one but heard a couple horror stories of turning saltwater to freshwater tanks. I was thinking about using a float switch on my controller to power an aqualifter pump hooked up to like a 5 gallon jug. I usually go through about 1 gal/day. As for the autofeeder do they have some sort of timer so i can set my pumps to be off? Does anyone have one I can borrow? Last question i've been waiting to hook up my calcium reactor until I had gotten the controller. The controller will come one day before I leave. Is it smart to hook up the calcium reactor before I leave or should I wait so I can dial it in.
siskiou
IMO, you should wait until you get back for the calcium reactor. It takes a few days to dial it in, but after that, it's heaven! Good luck with the trip.

QUOTE] You could do that with a controller, Digital Aquatics or Neptune.
Randy-S
As for the autofeeder do they have some sort of timer so i can set my pumps to be off? Does anyone have one I can borrow? I got one you can borrow and a feeder ring to contain the food. Let me know if you want to use them
