Refugium in oveflow box question

ciao

Recommended Posts

So after taking the advice of some people here on the board, I've installed a standpipe into my cover overflow boxes and I have to admit it's cut the noise down by at least 85% now which is very acceptable since I like the sound of running water(within reason :D).

Since the water is so much higher now, I've heard of other people here on the board using the corner overflow boxes as a refugium. I'm curious though how do you prevent the possibility of the macroalgae clogging up the pipe and causing massive overflowing of the tank? My biggest worry is that a chunk of the macroalgae gets sucked into the pipe and causes a clog that will prevent the water from draining. The last thing I want is water to overflow the tank and causing a massive flood in my living room. (scary)

I would appreciate any ideas.

Thanks
