jgf86123
hey guys, as some of you know, i just picked up a 30 breeder yesterday, the guy i got it from was unsure of the manufacturer, but was fairly certain, after having talked to 3 different tank makers, that it is untempered. i was wondering if there was a way to test this to make sure? im looking to drill a hole in the bottom of the tank and in one side for drain and return so i hope some of you can tell me the answer to this question. thanks mick
reef165
polarized sunglasses, at an angle the glass will have what looks like large patern like water spots if ite tempered and if ya look at a car window you will see what Im talking about and what to look for. pantherguy30
I googled it before and there is a way to tell with an LCD screen and a pair of polarized sunglasses. If the glass is not tempered the sceen goes completely black if it is you can see white lines.

Rick
It's doubtful the sides will be tempered however the bottom might be. (The chart I'm looking at now says no but I'm always leary that the bottom could be anyway)

CA2OR
hit it with a hammer rofl....now that is my kinda troubleshooting method...here is example of troubleshooting video problems(comp)
finch6013
odly enough with the old video equipment that method works quite will. Take old nintendo and VCR for example. If hitting it didn't fix it, blowing into it would.
CA2OR
Preaching to the choir here man....I still resort to that once in a while...but I use a can to do it now.

I think you had to do that with all of them to get them to work. (Oh, my good old standby if that failed was to throw it across the room as hard as I could. That sometimes helped.) CA2OR
or beating the system with the controller
pantherguy30
Yeah I didn't have polarized glasses either. So I tore apart an old cell phone and used the polarized plastic on the LCD screen. Then I used the LCD screen on my camcorder with a white piece of paper in front of it. Basicaly turned the polarized plastic untill it either went black or lines showed up:)
jgf86123
my methods always been the hammer an concrete method personally, although i have used a forklift on a cell phone that wasnt working right, not a good idea to be honest lol i still havent tested the glass yet, still need to clean it, but, i did get my stand roughed in, so ill have to post up some more pics in my build thread
