CA2OR
So I have 2 things I need to figure out what they are. I thought you guys might be able to help....here we go: First off is this thing There are like 3 of them popping up all over. They are kinda spikey but look mostly like a sponge. They are not moving, but I don't know if the corals react to touch as they aren't really close to any corals. Second is this stuff The purple tubes you see popping out of my rocks. Those too have been popping up all over. They appear to be tubes from the purple sponge that is growing all over. Is this stuff normal? Lowman
Both look like sponges to me
CA2OR
So they are safe?
Lowman
Yep. I love sponges, they add some texture to the tank
CA2OR
ok sweet. I was worried about the top one. There are a few growing...they have some trippy tenticals though. Didn't think sponges had tenticals. Bob, you got a hook up on some frag disks?
Lowman
maybe on the discs. is the first one soft?
CA2OR
it doesn't look like it. I don't know, I never touched it. I need discs though. Like at least
moovinfast
I have the little guys in the first set of pics too. I was told they are sponges and it shows you have extra nutrients in the tank
CA2OR
sweet...well that is good then
snowpunk
in the second set of pics your not referring to the sponges standing up are you. I thought you were talking about the thing with a bunch of strings off of it. I don't know what that is...
CA2OR
I dont know what that is either. But yeah I was referring to the stuff standing up. I have no idea what that stringy stuff is.
Michael7979
First pics are a little blurry but maybe cross-check with 'pineapple sponge', if I remember correctly.
CA2OR
It kinda looks like a pineapple now that I think about it. I bet you are right. I mean the color isn't right, but as far as the spines and such, yeah spot on.
CA2OR
yeah from everything I see it is a pineapple sponge....good job Michael.
ThePremiumAquarium
The long stick like things are also sponges. I have some in the cryptic section of my system. I also used to get them growing all over the place on the back of my rockwork in my last display. Good nutrient export critters. Plus I hear that linkias like to munch of some varieties as well. RLaForce
I have them all over my tank and they have never hurt anything. I also like the look of them in my tank (first pic). They can get pretty big so I just pull some off every now and then.
sharoleb
I have 3 of the ones in the first pic - pineapple sponge. Always wondered what they were, thanks!!
Hoss
I've had the purple strands before and they are in fact a sponge. When I had them they kind of grew out of control and got to be a bit of an eyesore but they eventually went away on their own.
