fpd4308
And how is your macro algae growth? I just started using a 65 watt PC flood light at 2700K. I hate the yellow color and I have heard 5100K might be the way to go. Trying to see if anyone had any experience with this.
CCR
6500K Is sunlight. Will grow fine. Still yellow, but so is our sun:)

lancecobb1
I had a 6500k t5 on my fuge and didnt get much growth till it fell into the sump and stopped working. Went to Home Cheapo and bought a 2700k cf floodlight with the built in reflector with the socket for like 15 dollars and i am getting way better growth now! I run the light 24/7. undrtkr_00
Read the link below for a pretty good review of one guy's experience with different bulbs, etc: http://melevsreef.com/fuge_bulb.html I use the 5100 bulb he recommends and am happy with it, but have not done "A-B" testing with any others like he did. fpd4308
Ok, I now have a 2700k, 5000k and 6500k bulb. I will give them a try and see which one I like and the algae likes the best. Right now we are using the 6500k bulb.

wanareef
Wow, the 51k had the most growth, I would have thought it was the 65k. That's what I'm burning in my fuge CF flood light
COReefer
are you serious? dead serious. I got the idea from melevsreef
RedCloud
I believe CA2OR asked that because you didn't say the Kelvin choice for bulb. So your post did not make sense. I use an 18 inch t8 at 5500K and my Macro grows good, but i haven't really compared much to other bulbs.
ThePremiumAquarium
I have used literally over a dozen differnt light spectrums and get the best growth out of the 6500K spectrum with the CF screw in bulbs and reflectors. I currently run 2 6ft VHO actinic daylight bulbs with about a 10-12K spectrum. I get way more grow, but would guess it is because of the wattage and intensity of the bulbs. Having a slightly higher nutrient leve will also help with growth if that is what you are going for. Garrett
